What is mercerised cotton?
Mercerisation is a finishing process for cotton that dates back to the 1800s. The fibre rounds out, takes dye deeply and holds a low lustre. The result is a fabric with a soft natural sheen, a smooth hand, and colour that runs deep and holds through washing. It breathes, keeps its shape and feels cool against the skin.
Why mercerised cotton and not silk?
We chose mercerised cotton over silk because it breathes, it lasts, and it improves with wear.
How does the Evening Boxer fit?
The Evening Boxer is a loose cut that sits above the knee, with a covered elastic waistband and a single button fly. It is light, so it sits easily under anything. It comes in sizes S, M, L, XL and 2XL; the size guide is on every product page.
Where is it made?
In Portugal. Our fabric comes from a mill in northern Portugal that is a Certified B Corporation, holds OEKO-TEX STeP certification for sustainable and safe production, and is ISO 14001 certified for environmental management. Much of the facility runs on its own solar array. Each pair is then cut and sewn by hand in a family owned and operated workshop, also in Portugal.
Who is MARU MORI?
A small company based in New York. For now we make one thing, the Evening Boxer, and we are focused on making it well.
Where does the name come from?
From Pablo Neruda's Ode to My Socks, a poem about a gift of hand-knitted socks and the dignity of wearing something made with genuine care. The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows later used the name for a word meaning “the heartbreaking simplicity of ordinary things.”
Do you sell sets?
Yes. The Set of Three comes in black, or in Cabernet, Racing Green and Pageant Blue.
How much is shipping?
Shipping within the United States is free. Orders are processed within 1 to 2 business days and usually arrive within 3 to 5 business days by USPS. You will receive tracking by email once your order ships.
What is your return policy?
Our products can be returned within thirty days of delivery. Underwear is returnable unworn, unwashed, and with its packaging intact. Write to support@marumori.co with your order number and we will send return instructions. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the return is processed, usually within five business days.
Exchanges for a different size or colour are handled as a return and a new order. Write to us first and we will hold the size or colour you want.
